Youth Ministry Report
Carlos Alonso OSA has now arrived and is settling in at 15 Dorville Crescent. Fr. Carlos is from the Matritense Province (Escorial) and has just finished a Masters in Criminal Law.
Carlos will take on the role of treasurer for the Augustinian Centre – he has experience in this position from when he was treasurer of his province’s formation community. Additionally, Carlos studied economics for two years.
New Office
Carlos and Gianni have begun to set up a new office space at Saint Augustine’s for the Augustinian Centre and Province Youth Ministry. Claire Webster is preparing to join them in due course.
Lay Community
Gianni has been asked to research properties and draw up a shortlist of six bedroom houses close to Dorville Crescent for our future lay community.
Flame Congress
One-day event at Wembley Arena in March for 8,000 young Catholics with music, workshops and great speakers. 25 young people from across the province are attending with us.
San Gimignano Trip & Formation Weekend
The first project organised by the Augustinian Centre consists of four days in San Gimignano after Easter to explore Augustinian spirituality and the origins of the Order. Twelve young people will participate and talks will be given by Frs. Brian, Ian and Delfio. There will be visits to the hermitages of the communities that existed before the foundation of the Order. Finally we will visit the Lecceto sisters to learn about their understanding of our spirituality. A reading list of articles on Augustinian spirituality is also being put together for reflection during the week.
Those who attended the trip to San Gimignano will spend a weekend together in June with 8 other young adults to share their experiences in San Gimignano with a view to producing new material and programmes we can share with our young people. This core team will then offer training to new recruits from our parishes.
Bright Lights
We hope to attend this National Catholic youth festival in June with young people from all over the Province and meet many people from different youth movements.
National Youth Gathering
We are hosting our next Gathering in Hertfordshire in September. The theme and timetable will be formed at the Formation Weekend in June but we hope to welcome 30 young people to this event.
