Loaves and fishes picnic in the park

Augustinian Friends Livesimply Picnic

The Augustinian Friends group took time out after Sunday Mass at St Monica's on 10 June to share a Loaves and Fishes picnic in Hoxton Square as a way to respond to the livesimply challenge. The livesimply challenge, which calls us all to look hard at our lifestyles and to choose to live simply, sustainably and in solidarity with those who are poor, is a challenge by the Catholic Church in the UK and is supported by over 40 different organisations including CAFOD, Pax Christi, CYS and CARJ. The Loaves and Fishes picnic, which is rooted in scripture, challenges us to see the importance of sharing in our lives as well as the impact that even our food consumption can have on those who are poor. Kieran O'Brien, National Officer for CAFOD Wales said "This simple gesture of a shared picnic symbolises what living simply really means. In the light of our faith it emphasises the importance of coming together as an open and inclusive community, to think about how our lifestyles effect those who are poor, to share all that we have and to find joy and happiness in our sharing. This simple gesture is really a deeper challenge for how we should live the rest of our lives". Food brought for the picnic was all sourced from Fair Trade cooperatives where possible and everything was shared by all. For more information please visit www.livesimply.org.uk to get involved.
