The Confirmation group from St Monica’s in Hoxton, London, recently visited Archbishop’s
House and Westminster Cathedral at the generous invitation of Bishop Bernard Longley,
and with the help of Sr Clement, an Augustinian Sister working at Archbishop’s House,
who holds the keys to many of the important rooms! Veronica and Alistair describe
the experience:
On the 10th of May 2008 St Monica’s confirmation class went to Westminster to visit
Bishop Bernard Longley in the Archbishop’s House. The trip was very lovely indeed,
we were taken to a lot of places, in other words it was like a Tour round the House
which Bishop Bernard Longley accompanied us on. He first took us to different rooms
and told us about them and the different bishops, the ones that are alive today and
the ones that are not, also we saw paintings of them which were very nice. We were
also very lucky to go into some rooms that visitors would not have been able to go
to. But out of every thing we saw the best one was seeing the Head
Bishop (the Cardinal)
who we got to shake hands with and got to go into his little Chapel to pray there,
it was very nice indeed. After that Bishop Longley took us to the cathedral for
a little tour around and to see which was very lovely. Altogether the trip was an
amazing experience.

On the 10th of May St Monica’s Confirmation group went to Westminster Cathedral. Before our look around, we went to McDonald’s and then we got there. We saw a lot of tombs and any tomb with a red hat above it was a Cardinal. We had a look around and I enjoyed the trip a lot and would not mind going there again. We also got lucky and got to meet Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor.
