Core Team propose theme of next International Augustinian Youth EncounterThe Core Team are a group of young adults representing young people in the Augustinian parishes around the Province. They volunteer their time to plan and run the national youth gatherings which normally take place twice a year. The current members are: Becky Walker (Woodvale, Southport); Claire Webster (Broomhouse, Edinburgh); Preye Tokoro (Hoxton, London); Graham and Rachael Baylis (Harborne, Birmingham); Roz Lamb and Anna Hornby (Clare, Suffolk); Patrick and Aisling Boughton Reynolds (Augustinian Friends); Michela Notarianni (Province Youth Co-ordinator & Hammersmith, London representative); and Fr Gianni Notarianni OSA (Friar representative).
The most recent meeting took place on Saturday 21 March in St Mary's Parish in Birmingham, where they were also joined by parish priest, Fr George Donaghy OSA, part of the AYE team. Plans were made for the forthcoming Youth Gathering at Clare Priory on 17-19 July 2009. However, even higher up the agenda was the choice of theme for the next International Augustinian Youth Encounter (AYE). The UK Province has been asked to host this in August 2010 - a huge privilege. The theme will be: I CALL YOU FRIENDS
The theme is taken from Jesus' parting message to his disciples in John 15. In his lifetime St Augustine yearned for true friendship, eventually discovering that this is only possible when it is rooted in Christ; he continues to be an example to young people today who inhabit a world where communication is easy but where true communion often seems far out of reach.
More news on the International Youth Encounter will be posted as it arrives, so watch this space. In the meantime, if you are a young person and would like to be involved in any way, please contact Michela Notarianni: youth@augustinians.org.uk or find us on facebook at 'Augustinian Youth UK'
