In the mid 1990s, the Augustinian Youth Movement began to take shape in England and
Scotland. It was inspired by those taking part in international Augustinian youth
gatherings, taking courage from seeing what was being done in other countries. The
ministry took the form of organising regional and then occasional national gatherings
of young people in different age-groups. These weekends were a judicious mixture
of socialising, fun, serious discussion and prayer. The young people thoroughly enjoyed
themselves and returned to their parishes enthused, encouraged and strengthened in
their faith, by encountering their peers who were also serious about their faith.
Purpose:
To support young people, in their respective age-groups, in their faith and to integrate them into parish ministries, by enabling them to meet their peers who practise and value their faith experiencing encounter in community. Community encounters being Augustinian inspired: centred on God; simple in expectations, generous in serving each other; generous in relationships; having fun together and enjoying each other’s company.
