Around our Augustinian Parishes; April 2010

Harborne

The parish celebrates John Reid’s 40th.

A correspondent writes:

We had the most memorable celebration for John Reid's 40th  ordination anniversary on 19 March.

The highlight without any doubt was his homily , which  gave us the journey of his schooling and into ordination.  He then continued to tell us of his extraordinary pastoral time in the various situations he has experienced.

We were all transfixed with the practical  hands on ministry he has been involved with, and it was  a very moving account to listen to.  The church was full, and 2 classes of the school came as well.

The buffet was wonderful as usual, so a very happy day was enjoyed by everyone.

We are certainly well blest.

(John will join his former parish in Broomhouse, Edinburgh for a celebration on 16 April.)

Our candlelight Taize prayer on 24th Feb was a beautiful prayerful evening.  The text was taken from a book by Richard Hobbs, entitled A More Perfect Way: the journey of Jesus to the cross,  the stations through the eyes of Jesus.

Dundee

Dundee celebrates Ian Wilson 25th.

The parish of SS Peter & Paul have arranged a celebration for Ian Wilson OSA on the 25th anniversary of his ordination, to take place at the 6 pm Mass on Saturday 10 April.

Several friars will be present for the occasion.

Clare

It is hoped, at the April meeting of the Parish in Council to present a small wall of sample bricks intended for the new church.

Another pilgrimage is planned to San Gimignano for 16-23 June.

The Friends of Augustine await their weekend with David Kelly OSA, 16-18 April.

Clare Pilgrimage

The annual pilgrimage in honour of the Mother of Good Counsel will take place on Sunday, 9 May.

Hammersmith

With the departure of Rick Piatt, there was to be a huge gap to fill the contribution he had made to building up the music ministry in the parish.

It was decided to employ a part-time musician and, after the usual search and screening with the aid of the diocese, a young man, John McCarthy was appointed.

He has brought enormous energy and enthusiasm to the task, spreading himself over all aspects of the liturgy.  This was especially the case for the Holy Week ceremonies.

He has continued the work with the 10.30 and 6.30 choirs on Sundays and, since the beginning of Lent, is building up music at the 12.15 Mass.

Hoxton

A restoration fund is seeking donations for various repairs and eventual decoration of the church.

A counselling service is available at the church during the afternoon hours of Sunday.

A night shelter for the poor in Hackney is supported by donations of both cash and food.
